Nearly 500 million people worldwide suffer from hearing loss, and another 1 billion are at risk to suffer from this. China has the largest number of people with hearing disabilities in the world. Among the 83 million disabled people in China, deaf people account for 33%. Every year, 60,000 to 100,000 newborns are born with congenital or delayed deafness. Hearing impairment has become the largest disability in China.

Deafness can be caused by many factors, more than 60% of which are caused by genetic factors. Hereditary deafness refers to hearing impairment caused by pathogenic mutations in hearing-related genes. Unlike the acquired deafness caused by senility and noise, hereditary deafness often occurs in infancy or childhood. Many children cannot hear their parents' voices before learning how to speak, and miss the best time to learn. Early detection and intervention can help children master speaking skills and avoid deafness.

At present, genetic screening and genetic counseling are the main methods to prevent hereditary deafness. Large-scale epidemiological and genetic diagnosis studies on deafness have found that mutations in GJB2, SLC26A4, mitochondrial 12SrRNA and GJB3 genes are the causes of most non-syndromic deafness. Genetic screening of deafness in a specific population can be used to detect hereditary deafness patients and potential reproductive risk groups of deafness, so as to realize early detection, diagnosis and intervention of hereditary deafness.

Yaneng - Facilitate genetic screening of deafness

With the continuous development of advanced medical research and diagnostic technology, more and more pathogenic genes of deafness have been identified, providing more comprehensive, accurate and rapid prevention and treatment.
On the occasion of "World Hearing Day ", care for hearing health, start from screening, prevent deafness, so that everyone can listen to the wonderful future.
